Boston In The Fall
Boston, MA is full of Fall weekend activities! From pumpkin patches, to apple picking, the city is full of locals and tourists excited to enjoy the beautiful season! This weekend Boston hosts the annual Head Of The Charles Regatta, also known as HOCR. This year, the event will be held on October 20-21 2018.
History on The Head Of The Charles Regatta
The competition started in 1965 and has been happening every year since then, it’s one of the largest rowing competitions, drawing in over 11,000 + people. The best rowers in the world come in near and far for the event. The races were created after the traditional races that were headed in England. The founders were members of the Cambridge Boat Club and got the idea from Harvard University sculling instructor Ernest Arlett, who was from England.
The races started off as a one-day event, until it became too large in 1997, when it was then extended into a two-day event. The competition is put on by volunteers, boat clubs, colleges/universities, as well as The Department of Conservation and Recreation.
During the October Weekend
If you are visiting Boston, MA for the competition or a local Bostonian coming into the city to see the races, our fall foliage cruises or architecture cruises are a great way to explore the city. On the cruises, you get a great view of the city, without doing the hard work of the rowers. It is a great time of year to be out on the water and you even get to do some leaf peeping from the water! Cruises are available October 21st and 22nd!
